Elgin

• Police questioned a man on the 100 block of West Chicago Street who was seen drinking from an open bottle of beer. He told police his name was Jermaine Veal, a report said. After further questioning, police said they found out the man was Jermaine McClellan, 35, of 109 W. Chicago St., Elgin, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant on a charge of attempted obstruction of justice, police said. McClellan was charged by police with a new obstruction charge, according to court records. McClellan's total bond was set at $900. He was unable to post bond and was taken to the Kane County jail. He is scheduled to appear at the Kane County Judicial Center on April 10.

• Police received calls at 4 p.m. Tuesday that a man was yelling and throwing rocks at people on Bent Street. One person said the man simulated that he had a gun. Police found the man and arrested Alex S. Barrera, 21, of 358 Bent St., Elgin, who was charged with disorderly conduct, according to a report. Barrera posted a $100 bond Wednesday and was released from custody. He is scheduled to appear in court in Elgin on April 3.

• A natural gas heater valued at $500 was stolen between 1 and 2 p.m. Tuesday from a home on the 200 block of Waverly Drive. According to a report, the house is undergoing rehabilitation and two men found inside the residence twice were told by employees of the construction company to leave earlier in the day.

• A digital scale was found to be missing from the pediatrics department of Provena St. Joseph Hospital on Saturday morning. The theft was reported to police on Tuesday. A video surveillance tape made in the pediatrics department showed a man pick it up, shove it in his pants and leave, a report said. Hospital personnel have attempted to contact the 30-year-old man from Batavia, but have gotten no response.

Kane County

• A resident of Lenschow Road in Burlington Township told Kane County sheriff's police his 1996 Ford F150 was taken from inside his garage sometime between 7 p.m. Sunday and 6:50 a.m. Monday. The vehicle was unlocked and had the keys inside. The truck, worth about $6,000, was found in damaged condition by Rockford police.
