Cops: Bank teller stole $15K to cover up theft; lost it all at casino

A Huntley bank teller lost $15,000 he'd stolen from his cash drawer while gambling at Elgin's riverboat casino in a botched attempt to cover up gas money he'd stolen before, authorities said Thursday.

Jason D. Kuehn, 23, of 726 Stonebridge Drive, in Crystal Lake, was arrested Wednesday on a felony theft offense, Huntley's deputy police chief Todd Fulton said in a statement.

Police say Kuehn worked as a teller at the National City Bank branch off Route 47 and stole $100 from his drawer, which he used to fill up his gas tank, according to Kane County court documents.

In a bid to repay the stolen gas money, Kuehn took more cash - $15,000 - and went gambling at the Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin, where he lost it all, the documents show.

Police began investigating last Saturday after the bank manager called and reported the theft, which is a Class 2 felony, Fulton said.

Kuehn was booked into the Kane County jail on $15,000 bail and has an initial court date set for April 4. It was unclear today if he had hired an attorney.
