Car, house burn in Streamwood
No one was injured when a burning pickup truck in Streamwood started a fire at the house it was parked next to just before midnight Wednesday.
Firefighters were called to 1101 Sunnydale Blvd. for the pickup fire. When they arrived, they found the truck fully engulfed and that the fire had already moved to the exterior of the home and was spreading quickly toward the attic.
The owner of the house and the truck safely escaped the house along with seven other family members, all of whom are now staying with other relatives in the area.
Firefighters quickly put out the truck fire and then entered the house. Deputy Chief Mark Hudson said the drywall ceilings in the living room and kitchen had to be pulled down to expose and extinguish the fire.
Damage to the house was estimated at $100,000. The exterior, roof and attic sustained heavy fire damage and there was light smoke damage in the rest of the house.
The 1997 Ford pickup was totaled, but three other vehicles in the driveway only moderately damaged.
Streamwood investigators determined the cause of the fire to be accidental, having started in the truck's engine compartment.
