Mayor: Elk Grove police station is 'on time and on budget'
Steel beams stretching vertically toward the sky show a work in progress.
Elk Grove Village is moving right along on its $25 million project to build a new police administration center and spruce up its village hall.
Workers knocked down the current one-story, 40,000-square-foot police station, and construction to convert it into a two-story, 60,000- to 70,000-square-foot facility with underground parking for squad cars is under way.
"The building is on time and on budget," Mayor Craig Johnson said Tuesday.
Trustees at their regular board meeting approved a slew of bids for work tied to the major project.
Officials also announced that starting in June, meetings will be held in the lower level of village hall, 901 Wellington Ave., as work to renovate the current council chambers begins.
Work is scheduled to wrap up in spring 2009.
Trustees approved the following spending Tuesday for the new administrative and public-safety complex:
• $540,000, Doherty Construction Inc. of South Elgin for carpentry.
• $28,897, Complete Fence Inc. of West Chicago for fences and gates.
• $36,088, Chicago Drapery and Carpet for window treatments.
• $89,840, Glander Paving Co. of Palatine for asphalt.
• $184,679, Flooring Solutions Inc. of Oak Brook for flooring.
• $220,923, International Decorators Inc. of Barrington for ceilings.
