Schaumburg to award village scholarships
Schaumburg Village President Al Larson has announced the availability of the 15th annual Community Scholarship Program in cooperation with the Workforce Board of Northern Cook County and the Northwest Municipal Conference.
As a result of a joint scholarship development campaign in the business community, the village has been provided funding to award a scholarships to qualified residents to pursue educational training, upgrading or retraining.
The scholarships can be applied toward tuition, books and any other commensurate educational expenses.
Each scholarship award, not to exceed $1,000, will be paid directly to the educational institution. A President's Committee will select the scholarship winner.
Applications are now available at the Atcher Municipal Center and at villageofschaumburg.com.
Applications, along with two references will be accepted until 3 p.m. Friday at the Office of the Village President, 101 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg IL 60193.
Recipients will be notified by April 11 and is valid until June 15, 2009. Scholarship awards are nonrenewable.
The eligibility and selection criteria for the scholarship program are as follows:
• Must be a resident of Schaumburg
• Must demonstrate financial need
• May be a first-time, continuing or returning student
• Must have education or career goals
• Must be interested in completing course work that supports education or career goals
• Must demonstrate the ability to successfully complete course work
• Must take course work at an approved Illinois educational institution
• May submit only one application per person
