Barber cuts it in season opener
It wasn't too cold for the Mundelein and Lakes baseball teams Thursday.
"We could have played (Wednesday), too," Mundelein coach Todd Parola said after his Mustangs opened their season with a 15-2, six-inning win over visiting Lakes, which was the "home" team since the game was supposed to be played in Lake Villa.
Junior Kevin Barber led the Mustangs' offensive attack by going 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Junior Colton Tortorello was 2-for-4. Senior Brad Medina drew 4 walks, smacked an RBI double and scored 3 runs. Seniors Marc Neff and Alex Ahonen also doubled.
On the mound, senior Eric Rohe threw 4 innings for the win, allowing only 1 earned run, while striking out three and walking three.
Mundelein's scheduled game against Grayslake Central on Saturday has been postponed. The Mustangs leave Monday on their annual trip downstate. They play Danville on Monday and Carbondale on Tuesday.
