McHenry man accused of child sex abuse

A 58-year-old McHenry man is accused of molesting a girl younger than 13 while on a Wisconsin camping trip, police said Thursday.

Frank J. Coleman, of 806 East Blvd., was arrested Wednesday in Elgin by the McHenry County Sheriff's Police Fugitive Apprehension Team and the U.S. Marshall's Great Lakes Regional Task Force, authorities said. He has been charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child under 13 without great bodily harm, persistent repeater, two counts of lifetime supervision of serious sex offenders and two counts of child enticement.

According to police, the Department of Children and Family Services received a report of abuse allegations involving Coleman last summer near McHenry. Police said they learned Coleman took two girls on a camping trip near the Wisconsin Dells and "inappropriately touched" one of them.

The charges against Coleman were filed by the Sauk County, Wis., Sheriff's Office and the Sauk County State's Attorney's Office after a joint investigation involving the McHenry County Sheriff's Police Criminal Investigations Division, officials said.

Thursday, Coleman was being held at the McHenry County Correctional Facility while awaiting extradition to Wisconsin. Police said he could be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole if he is convicted of the most serious charge.
