Motorola to lay off British workers

SCHAUMBURG -- Motorola Inc. has notified 121 workers at its Birmingham, England, research center this week that about half will be laid off and the center could close. Motorola has a 90-day period to review possible redeployment, relocation and flexible work schedules for the remaining workers. Motorola opened the center in 2005. It will continue to maintain its regional headquarters in Basingstoke.
