Wildlife center offers day camp for kids
Looking for something for the little ones to do on spring break?
The Fox Valley Wildlife Center will have a spring break day camp for children in kindergarten through third grade. The camp will be outdoors from 10 a.m. to noon March 25-28.
The wildlife center is in the Elburn Woods Forest Preserve on Route 38, one mile west of Route 47 in Maple Park.
Children will learn about the spring and summer "baby season" in the wild in four sessions, with one session held each day.
Session one will focus on mammals, session two is bout songbirds and birds of prey, session three will feature waterfowl, and reptiles and amphibians are featured in session four.
The fee for each day is $10 per child, or $35 for all four days.

Star gazing
Get a great look at the spring sky at "Astrofeast" beginning at 6:30 p.m. March 28 at Blackberry Maples Forest Preserve on Main Street Road, a half mile east of Route 47 in Elburn.
Experts from the Kane County Astronomical Association and the Fox Valley Astronomical Society will set up telescopes for guests to use. Participants are welcome to bring a light supper or just snacks and beverages and join a tailgate party.

Nominations are being sought for Waubonsee Community College's 2008 distinguished contributor and distinguished alumnus awards.
Nominations must be submitted by April 7 to Teri Leatherbury, executive assistant to the president.
The distinguished contributor award honors an individual who has made outstanding contributions or given exemplary support to Waubonsee Community College in either a personal or professional capacity. Employees and retirees of Waubonsee Community College are not eligible.
The distinguished alumnus award is for outstanding graduates of Waubonsee Community College. It honors a graduate who shows evidence of personal/professional support for the college, its growth, development and mission. The individual must have documented evidence of a distinguished record in their profession or occupation.

90-minute hikes
You can join naturalists from the Kane County Forest Preserve District as they search for spring during 90-minute hikes on March 25-27. All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Two hikes are scheduled in the Tri-Cities area:
• March 26 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Tekakwitha Woods Forest Preserve, 35W076 Villa Maria Road, St. Charles
• March 27 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Hannaford Woods/Nickels Farm Forest Preserve, on Merrill Road, one mile east of Route 74, Sugar Grove.
