McHenry student charged with felony in groping of cafeteria worker
A McHenry High School student spent a night in the county jail over the weekend and could face many more since being arrested Friday on felony allegations he groped a cafeteria worker at his school.
Isaac Chambers, 18, of McHenry, is charged with aggravated battery stemming from the incident in which authorities say he grabbed the woman's breast "in an insulting and provoking nature" at school Friday.
McHenry police did not release details and declined comment Monday on the incident at the high school's East Campus.
Police arrested Chambers about 4 p.m. Friday and transferred him to the McHenry County jail, where he spent the spent held without bond. A judge set bond at $20,000 when Chambers appeared in court Saturday, and he later posted the 10 percent necessary to go free while his case is pending.
Chambers could not be reached for comment Monday. He does not yet have an attorney, according to court records.
McHenry East Principal Lynn Schnelker said "school consequences have been issued" against Chambers but declined to discuss his punishment or the incident that landed him in jail.
"What's important is that everyone is safe and there were no injuries," Schnelker said.
The charge against Chambers, elevated to a felony because the woman accusing him is a school employee, is punishable by a maximum two to five years in prison. Probation also is a sentencing option.
Chambers' next scheduled court appearance is April 7 before McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather.
