Open house at NIU

Northern Illinois University will hold an open house for prospective students from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Holmes Student Center on the DeKalb campus. Attendees can talk with faculty, admissions officers and student services workers. There will be a campus tour, residence hall visits and an information fair. Friday is the deadline to get nominations in for the McHenry County Health Department's annual Spirit of Public Health Awards. The honor recognizes those who have shown they're committed to improving the community's health. Categories include students, volunteers and professionals. Have say in state spending

State Sen. Pam Althoff and state Representatives Jack Franks and Mike Tyron will host a meeting this week to discuss the state's financial deficit and give residents an opportunity to say where the state's money should be going.
