Briefs: Drug and weapons arrest
A 52-year-old Carol Stream man turned himself in to police on charges that stemmed from a search warrant executed at his home in January. Ross L. Bade Sr., of 545 Sundance Court, was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, possession of firearm ammunition without requisite firearm owner's ID card and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a press release from the department. During the earlier search, police seized 200 grams of cannabis, handgun ammunition and 28 handheld pipes used to smoke cannabis. Bade was released after posting $5,000 cash bond.
Green launch for mail
The U.S. Postal Service is beginning a Mail Back program that allows customers to recycle small electronics and inkjet cartridges by mailing them free of charge beginning Monday. Consumers will be able to use free envelopes available at the post office to mail back inkjet cartridges, PDAs, Blackberries, digital cameras, iPods and MP3 players without paying postage. The postage will be paid by Clover Technologies Group, a national company that recycles, re-manufactures and re-markets such items. The company has a "zero waste to landfill" policy.
Vandals damage shops
Naperville Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in a series of vandalism cases involving pellet guns. Authorities said Wednesday that glass doors or windows on four businesses were broken between Feb. 21 and Feb. 23. The businesses are: US Bank, 1230 S. Naper Blvd.; Buona Beef, 1588 Naperville/Wheaton Road; Salon Gisele, 619 E. Ogden Ave.; and Dean's Dugout, 1815 Wehrli Road. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at (630) 420-6006. Callers may remain anonymous and still collect the reward.
3 join food pantry board
Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry in Naperville has named residents John Attanasio, Barry Horek and Deborah Shaughnessy to three-year terms on its board of directors. Attanasio is the vice president and chief marketing officer of corporate marketing for Temperature Equipment Corporation of Lansing. Horek, a former Loaves & Fishes board member and past president of Naperville United Way, is a retired tax partner and practice leader with Ernest & Young. Shaughnessy, the marketing manager for Gailani & Associates Interior Design, has served as a volunteer coordinator for DuPage PADS and is a DuPage PADS night shelter volunteer.
Legion to honor women
Current and former military women will be honored at an American Legion Post 43 dinner on March 29 at the Judd Kendall VFW Hall, 908 W. Jackson Ave., Naperville. The keynote speaker will be Army Col. Marcia M. Anderson, who soon will be promoted to brigadier general. Women who have served or are serving in the armed forces are invited. Members of the community also are welcome. Art wanted for exhibit
The Aurora Public Art Commission is seeking works for an exhibit titled "Lost and Found: The Art of Making Art After an Extended Interlude." Artists who have, for any reason, stopped making art for a time and resumed creating their work are invited to submit two- and three-dimensional pieces. The exhibit will go on display next year. The deadline for entries is Sept. 26, 2008. Artists should send a CD with images of four to 10 recent works including dates, resume, address, phone number, e-mail address, artist's statement and Web site/online gallery if applicable to Aurora Public Art Commission, 44 E. Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60507. Artists who want the packet returned should include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
