Historical society offers new tours

The Lombard Historical Society has expanded programming for school groups, Scout troops and other organizations.

Programs focusing on both U.S. history and Lombard's own history are available days and evenings throughout the week at the Victorian Cottage Museum, 23 W. Maple St., and the Sheldon Peck Homestead, 355 E. Parkside.

Groups that visit the Peck Homestead may choose from programs that include hands-on lessons about how pioneers washed clothes, spun wool and made necessities such as rope, soap, butter and candles, or take topical tours such as "The Underground Railroad" and "Illinois in the 1850s."

At the museum, activities include craft projects, Victorian etiquette lessons, 19th century games and more.

Programs cost $2 to $7 per person, based on supply costs. Reservations are required. For details, call (630) 629-1885 or visit www.lombardhistory.org.
