Get a peek into state budget process
Rep. Jack Franks will host a regional hearing on the state budget with state Sen. Pam Althoff and state Rep. Mike Tryon at 6:30 p.m. March 19 at the McHenry County College Conference Center, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.
In the face of a $750 million deficit for the current fiscal year and challenging economic conditions forecast for the next, the hearing is designed to give community leaders, business owners, labor officials, service providers, advocacy organizations, health care facilities, school districts, colleges and local residents an opportunity to learn more about state finances and to weigh in with their own views about what lawmakers should make the budget's funding priorities.
The hearing also is intended to provide a venue in which to educate the public on how the state has come to find itself in its current fiscal condition and to seek advice for ways to increase government efficiency and reduce costs.
Legislators will use the information gathered at regional hearings taking place throughout the state over the next several weeks to help direct their efforts to construct a fiscally responsible and balanced budget.
"Senator Althoff, Representative Tryon and I are excited to be able to host this forum to allow the people of McHenry County to express their concerns about the state budget process," Franks said.
"We understand that it is difficult for many to make the long trek down to Springfield to testify before committees, so it's important that we hold local meetings to bring the process to the constituents.
"McHenry County citizens deserve a seat at the table when it comes to crafting a state budget."
