Fox Valley Wildlife Center seeks volunteers

The Fox Valley Wildlife Center is looking for volunteers who are interested in helping the area's wildlife this upcoming season, which runs April 1 to Sept. 30.

Interested volunteers ages 18 and older are invited to attend the new volunteer orientation at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Wildlife Center in the Elburn Woods Forest Preserve on Route 38, one mile west of Route 47.

Animal handling volunteers help with all aspects of wildlife rehabilitation, from hand feeding baby mammals and birds to washing food dishes.

Volunteers need to commit to at least one 4-hour shift each week, April through September. Morning shifts also are available October through March.

Support volunteers are needed to help keep the center running. There is no specific time commitment for support volunteers.

Internship opportunities are available in wildlife rehabilitation and public relations. Interns work May through August and experience is not necessary. The Wildlife Center will work with higher education facilities to help obtain course credit.

For details on the Wildlife Center's internship program or volunteering opportunities, visit www.FoxValleyWildlife.org or call (630) 365-3800.

The Fox Valley Wildlife Center is a nonprofit, volunteer organization and is Kane County's only licensed wildlife rehabilitation facility. The center is state and federally licensed to care for orphaned and injured wild birds and mammals and is privately funded, supported entirely by membership fees, donations, grants and fundraisers.
