A new suggestion for NIU situation
The recent visit by the governor to NIU has been a subject of interest to many.
Apparently, the governor and some NIU officials had a meeting at the school- and concluded the best remedy for the terrible act of violence is to bring in the bulldozers.
There should be some other remedies that are far more effective in relieving some of the grief than the bulldozing approach.
Perhaps a better approach is students who cannot get through this should just enroll in another school. NIU is not the only good school in the state or in the country.
What the governor could do is offer his backing for them to transfer to another state school. This would not cost anything other than phone calls, yet offer more relief to those most strongly affected by this tragedy.
If the governor has an extra $40 million laying around, why not direct it for much needed Illinois bridge repairs? One that is on the check-out-soon list is the bridge on the Eisenhower Expressway over the Chicago River.
Whenever I drive over it, it shakes so I always feel better when I get to the other side.
