Legion hosts spaghetti dinner

The Elgin American Legion Post 57, 820 N. Liberty in Elgin, will host spaghetti night from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. The dinner features spaghetti with meat sauce, meatballs, garlic toast and salad. Lions invites you to dinner, dancing

South Elgin Lions Club will host a corned beef and cabbage dinner and dance Friday at the South Elgin Lions Club, 500 Fulton St.

The dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. and dancing from 7 to 11 p.m.

A portion of the proceeds of the dinner will be donated to the South Elgin Police Department for Special Olympics.

Cost is $7 for corned beef or fish, and $3 for hog dogs. The meal does not include a beverage. Cash bar will be available. Cost for the dance only is $5. If you have questions, call Lion Kim Wascher or Lion Angie DeLeon at (847) 888-9575.

'3 Cool Dudes' with Heartland Voices

Heartland Voices will present 3 Cool Dudes: Music of Bach, Handel and Mozart at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Highland Ave. Elgin and also at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Marcelline Catholic Church, 822 S. Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg.

The performance begins with Johann Sebastian Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto Number 4," featuring the Metropolis Chamber Orchestra and conducted by John G. Slawson, and continues with his "Cantata Number 4: Christ lag in Todesbanden" with soprano Cami Gerwen, mezzo-soprano Amy Allen, alto Marcy Gloede, tenor Stephen Hommowun and baritone George F. Levar.

The second half features assistant conductor Marc Alan Brunelle directing George Frideric Handel's "Coronation Anthem Number 1: Zadok the Priest," followed by Brunelle conducting the orchestra in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's lovely and unforgettable "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik."

The evening concludes with Slawson conducting Mozart's "Solemn Vespers: Vesperae Solennes de Confessore" with soprano Cami Gerwen, mezzo-soprano Patricia Buerger, tenor Stephen Hommowun and bass David Anderson.
