Bring in compact fluorescent bulbs

The Buffalo Grove Health Department, along with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County, is sponsoring a Compact Fluorescent Lightbulb recycling program. CFL bulbs can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Buffalo Grove Village Hall 50 Raupp Blvd., Buffalo Grove.

It is recommended that the bulbs be placed in zippered plastic bags in case of breakage. The program will also accept the 4-foot fluorescent bulbs, but extra care should be taken when bringing them in.

Earth Hour to be held March 28

From 8 to 9 p.m. March 28, the Chicagoland area is invited to take part in Earth Hour Chicago. The goal of the event is to demonstrate that by working together, everyone can make a positive impact on global warming. For the one hour, business and residents are encouraged to turn off all nonessential lights in their homes and businesses. In addition to the Chicago area, the event will be held in Phoenix, Atlanta and San Francisco. For more information, check out www.earthhour.org.

Artists sought for art fest

The Mount Prospect Fine Arts Festival is seeking all fine artists to exhibit painting, sculpture, pottery, graphics, photography, glass, silver and gold jewelry and mixed mediums for the festival to be held June 21. Application deadline is March 31.

Commercially produced prints are restricted to 25 percent of the individual exhibits. Label all commercial reproductions and prints.

Participants must be juried into the show by sending three slides or three photos of recent work. Clearly label each slide or photo with media. Send slides or photos with the entry form, fee ($70), SASE for return of slides or photos. Applications are available at www.mountprospect.org.
