Prayer day embraces all kinds of faiths
More than 75 Barrington-area women turned out Friday to celebrate World Day of Prayer at Wauconda Federated Church.
The event is a worldwide movement of women of different faiths and traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year.
The guest speaker for this year's service was the Rev. Digna Campanano, staff chaplain for Cardiac Care Center at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
She spoke about the differences everyone sees in the world each day.
"Difference can lead us to a new understanding," she said.
Each year, a different country serves as the origin of the day's worship service. For 2008, officials from Guyana developed the theme "God's Wisdom Provides New Understanding."
Throughout the service, passages about the people of Guyana and the environment they live in were shared.
"In a way, I was transported to that land," Campanano said following the readings. "God's wisdom is really embodied in the life of those people."
