Why Republican agenda has failed

Once again Mr. Steve Toye (Fence Post, Feb. 19) points out a bunch of reasons why the Republican agenda has failed. He needs only to look at the policies that have made so many Americans turn their back on them.

First of all, the word conservative. As do most Republicans, Mr. Toye has to keep bringing up Reagan. Conservative? This was the man who made it OK to begin to borrow our country into unreasonable debt. With Bush 2 we have dug ourselves a hole we may never climb out of. Fiscal conservatives? Yeah, right.

Now how about that Newt Gingrich and the so-called Contract with America? Oh, the Republicans really did our country right by that one.

Lemmings, Mr. Toye writes. The lemmings have been following the so-called conservative agenda for a long time. Too bad that most of those who have been voted into power on the conservative platform have sold you a bill of goods. Face it, Mr. Toye. Most of the Republicans that you helped vote into power had only one thing on their minds -- money and power. So when your party starts moving toward the middle you just have to look at what they have done to our country to understand why.

So, yeah, let's start drilling for oil any where we can regardless of who may suffer. And yes, Exxon Mobil needs to make more money along with the rest of the oil companies and Arab countries. Why would we ever even think about alternative fuels to power us when there is so much money to be made? And please, let's torture any and all who disagree with us?

Yes, let's all be afraid, be very afraid. That way you won't be able to understand what's happening to you as you fall off that cliff. Did someone say "lemmings"?
