Back governor on economic growth
I have been thinking about Gov. Blagojevich's bill to provide an economic stimulus plan for the Illinois economy in this time of recession and increasing prices for the consumer in most every area, including gasoline, bread, and milk for our kids.
With the increase in expenses per household, and the national unemployment rate going up, I am very concerned that something does need to be done to further stimulate our economy and provide and create jobs for people in Illinois.
Creating a 20 percent tax cut, as the governor has outlined, for businesses that create and keep jobs in Illinois, is, in my opinion, an excellent idea. This not only encourages businesses to come to Illinois, but to stay here and do their business here, and the outcome of more jobs in Illinois, per the governor's proposal, is much needed.
Investment in the infrastructure of Illinois is much needed. Our roads need work; I drive over numerous potholes every day. The need to help with mass transit is also a very high priority for those who commute to work via rail and CTA. We have more than a few bridges that need bolstering, as those of us who can afford to drive and commute take to the roads.
I believe the governor's plan should be taken seriously by state legislators and the business community.
The assistance Gov. Blagojevich proposes to families with children, with a one- time payment of $300 per child, is almost too modest, but I do understand there are limits. With skyrocketing costs of raising children, education and higher education, parents need this small addition to their pocketbooks.
I am a concerned citizen who has read over the stimulus package, and I believe Gov. Blagojevich is on the right track.
