New fire chief sworn in

Terrence Vavra, the new Buffalo Grove fire chief, was sworn in Monday night at the village board meeting. Vavra, 50, was formerly deputy chief at the Lisle-Woodridge fire department and is replacing Tim Sashko, who retired from Buffalo Grove last year to take on the chief job in Mundelein. Vavra had been at Lisle-Woodridge since 1976, when he began his fire career. "I want to thank the village board and (village manager Bill) Brimm for taking a chance on me," Vavra said Monday. "I think it's a good match. I'm impressed with everything I've seen so far." Vavra is the fourth chief for Buffalo Grove.
