MCC lawn, garden classes

Explore new ideas to beautify your lawn or garden this spring with stimulating and educational classes offered by McHenry County College's Continuing Education Department. Classes include Love Your Lawn, Interior Design, Proper Pruning and Green Gardening. To register, call the MCC Registration Office at (815) 455-8588. These classes will begin soon:

• Love Your Lawn: Careful planning helps ensure success when caring for lawns. This seminar includes discussions and tips on when and how to fertilize lawns, renovate damaged areas, manage thatch, and address weed problems and grub concerns. Learn what lawn care needs are for spring, summer and fall. Bring your specific lawn care questions with you. This class meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Room A112. The cost of the class is $19. Use course ID NHG S37 003 when registering.

• Interior Design-Help Your Home: This is interior design for today's living. Using color, window treatment options, your own floor plans and lots of imagination, you'll discover how to make the most of your living spaces. You'll also get useful information on how to deal with problem areas and decorating challenges. This class meets from 7 to 9 p.m. March 12 at the Decorator Nook at 64 N. Williams St. in Crystal Lake. The cost of the class is $19. Use course ID NHG S25 003 when registering.

• Proper Pruning: Learn how and when to correctly prune and trim shrubs, tree, perennials, roses and ornamental grasses. See the tools that professionals use to make the job even easier. This class meets from 8 to 9:30 a.m. March 15. The cost of the class is $25. Use course ID NHG S16 003 when registering.

• Green Gardening: There are many techniques and products that can be used in gardening the natural way with no harsh pesticides, herbicides or chemical-based fertilizers. This class will discuss natural alternatives as well as the benefits of composting. This class meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 27. The cost of the class is $25.
