Briefs: Man jailed on DUI charge

An Arlington Heights man facing his sixth charge of driving under the influence after a Feb. 1 traffic stop was released from the hospital Thursday but was transferred to jail after he was unable to post bond, Arlington Heights police reported. Steven N. Salzman, 44, had been receiving medical treatment at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights since his arrest. He was released to Arlington Heights police, who took him to bond court in Rolling Meadows. A Cook County circuit court judge found sufficient cause to hold Salzman for trial and bond was set at $200,000, police said. The next hearing in the case is 9 a.m. March 7.

Sex offender gets probation:

A Rolling Meadows man was sentenced Thursday to two years' probation for sexually abusing a young relative last year over Thanksgiving weekend. Roberto Cortez-Herrera, 32, pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He could have faced up to seven years in prison. Authorities said Cortez-Herrera was seated at the kitchen table of a relative's Rolling Meadows home Nov. 22 when he molested a 12-year-old girl. Cortez-Herrera will have to register as a sex offender.
