Glenbard North post-prom fundraisers help to keep the costs down
A post-prom night for Glenbard North High School students, featuring an Odyssey cruise departing from Navy Pier, offers the perfect magical ending for prom and a safe, alcohol-free environment. That event requires the continued support of the Carol Stream community.
"It's so elegant," Nancy Zak, co-chair for post-prom, said of the cruise ship.
She added that many of the students may not otherwise have an opportunity to experience an Odyssey cruise.
So that this event remains affordable, with tickets typically sold for about $40, Zak and co-chairwoman Linda Court plan fundraisers during most of the school year -- and they greatly count on community support.
"We really work very hard at this all year," said Zak, whose three daughters have all graduated from Glenbard North and attended post-prom events.
Post-prom tickets include round-trip transportation via coach bus from this year's prom site, Pheasant Run, music provided by a DJ, snacks, beverages and many caring chaperones.
There have been several fundraisers to date with many more in the works, including one scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. March 3 at McDonald's, 1335 N. County Farm Road, Carol Stream.
All you need to do is mention that you are participating in the fundraiser or complete a form available at the restaurant and give it to the cashier.
Although the dates have not been finalized for April's fundraisers, they are planned for Oberweis Dairy, 338 W. Army Trail Road, Bloomingdale; and Culver's, 290 S. Schmale Road, Carol Stream. Both have agreed to host these fundraiser events.
It is anticipated that additional donations will come from Glenbard North feeder schools and local businesses.
"We always take monetary donations too," said Zak.
Donations may be sent to Glenbard North High School, Attn: Post-Prom Committee, 990 N. Kuhn Road, Carol Stream, IL 60188.
Zak and Court also want to stress just how important it is for parents to encourage children to choose attending post-prom rather than going out on their own. Last year nearly three-quarters of the prom-goers -- 400 kids -- at tended post prom.
"They (parents) don't have to worry about the kids attending post-prom," said Zak, who wants this to be a night to remember, for all the right reasons.
