First Congregational to hold Lenten retreat in Woodstock
The community is invited to join with First Congregational Church members for a quiet day of conversation and prayer.
The "Sleepers Awake," a Lenten retreat, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Resurrection Center, 2710 S. Country Club Road, Woodstock.
This is the "Laetare Sunday" weekend in the church calendar, which introduces a note of joy into the penitential Lenten season.
Co-led by the Revs. Budd Friend-Jones and Mary Cramer, the day will include an exploration of individual spiritual journeys; and an introduction to centering prayer, and to the ancient practice of "lectio divina," or praying with Scripture.
Weather permitting, the labyrinth will be available for walking meditations. There will be time together and time for solitary reflection. Snacks and lunch will be provided. The retreat will deepen our Lenten experience as we look toward the joy of Easter. It will conclude with Holy Communion.
A donation of $35 toward the costs of the facility and food will be appreciated. RSVPs are requested as soon as possible with the church office, (815) 459-6010, office@fcc-cl.org. Directions are available.
