Seabrook puts up a fight for teammates

LOS ANGELES -- Brent Seabrook doesn't consider himself as an enforcer, but when someone takes a run at one of his teammates, the Blackhawks' defenseman is going to show up.

That's what happened in the second period Saturday when the Kings' Dustin Brown delivered a high hit on Jonathan Toews.

Seabrook fought Brown, earning 17 minutes in penalties, including a minor for instigating and a 10-minute misconduct.

Right after Seabrook's fight, the Hawks scored 4 goals to break open a 1-1 game.

"He's proven he's going to be there the last few games with guys going after (Patrick) Kane and myself and other guys," Toews said.

"That's good leadership and shows the other team we're not going to back down from that kind of stuff. You appreciate it when you've got a guy in the locker room who is going to stick up for you like that."

Seabrook shrugged it off as just being part of his job.

"(Toews) is one of our best players and you can't have that happen," Seabrook said. "We've got to protect him and stand up for each other. I was just trying to let them know they can't be running at our players like that.

"I don't know if it's my role to go out and fight every night, but I'm definitely going to take exception when their guys are running our guys. We're not going to take that."

Sloppy finish: Martin Havlat and Robert Lang were on the ice for 3 of the 4 goals the Kings scored in the final 12 minutes to tie the game at 5-5. Patrick Kane was with his linemates for two of them.

Fortunately for the Hawks they rallied to win 6-5 in overtime.

"Our best players have to play defense," Hawks coach Denis Savard said. "I don't care what the score, you've got to think of your goalie and you got to think that we're playing (tonight) too and save some energy. You don't save energy playing in your own end the whole third period."

Injury report: Brent Sopel broke a bone in his left hand blocking a shot against Minnesota on Wednesday and could miss 2-3 weeks.

Nikolai Khabubulin will sit out his second straight game tonight at Anaheim with back spasms.
