Briefs: Coil breaks in school

Algonquin's Eastview Elementary School was evacuated after school Friday because of a ruptured heating coil, firefighters said. Students already had been dismissed for the day when at 3 p.m. the coil broke, pouring water and steam into the main office. Two groups of students in afterschool activities were evacuated to Algonquin Middle School, where their parents picked them up. The school will be open today and the heating system has been repaired. At least two of the school's computers were damaged in the incident, but office staff were able to save files and much of the equipment from water damage.
