Briefs: Cats up for adoption

At least 20 cats and kittens will be up for adoption from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday during an adoption drive at National City Bank, 2600 E. Main St., St. Charles. The drive is a project of St. Charles-based Homes for Endangered and Lost Pets. All animals have had vaccinations, parasite control treatment, spaying or neutering, viral testing and have microchips. Auxiliary scholarships

The Central DuPage Hospital Auxiliary will award scholarships to high school, college and graduate students interested in pursuing a career in health care. Scholarships will be given to students attending a college, university or graduate program this fall. In order to qualify, students must document academic excellence and live within the hospital's service area in Winfield. Scholarship guidelines and applications are available at www.cdh.org. Tax help for seniors

Free confidential tax preparation service will be provided to senior citizens Thursday afternoons through April 10 at the Geneva Township Senior Center, 400 Wheeler Drive, Geneva. Appointments are required. Call (630) 232-3602.

Presidents visited Geneva

The Geneva History Center has a special exhibition, "The President is Coming," through March 1. Learn about the U.S. presidents who paid a call to Geneva. In addition, this exhibition will include rare photographs and campaign memorabilia, some dating back to the Civil War. The Geneva History Center is at 113 S. Tax applications available

Real estate tax deferral applications are available through the Kane County treasurer's office. This is the 24th year of the program that permits qualified senior citizens to defer all or a portion of their real estate taxes. Once completed these forms should be returned to the treasurer's office on or before March 1. To qualify, a senior citizen mustbe 65 or older by June 1, have a total household income of $50,000 or less, have lived on the property for at least three years, not owe any delinquent property taxes and have proof of homeowners insurance. Forms can be picked up at the treasurer's office in Geneva, 719 Batavia Ave., Building A, or they can be obtained by mail. Call Della Winckler at the treasurer's office at (630) 232-3565.
