Second boy allegedly burned by father dies

The second of two boys doused with gasoline and severely burned in a suburban Chicago house fire allegedly started by their father has died, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Vishv Patel, 7, of Glendale Heights, was pronounced dead late Tuesday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. His brother, Om Patel, 4, died last month at the hospital.

Before he died, Vishv was in critical condition in a drug-induced coma, according to a hospital spokesman.

Earlier Tuesday, prosecutors said they're satisfied with a $10 million cash bond imposed on the boys' father, who is accused of setting his two young sons on fire.

Kaushik Patel, 34, was scheduled to appear in DuPage County court for a full bond hearing.

Prosecutors, however, said they were confident the $10 million bond imposed Friday would guarantee Patel's presence.

He's expected to be arraigned next month on charges of murder, attempted murder and aggravated arson.

Authorities say Patel doused his sons in gasoline and set them on fire in a shower stall, burning himself as well. The boys' mother wasn't at home.
