Smaller bins on the way

Carpentersville is finalizing negotiations with refuse collection company Arc Disposal regarding the cart exchange program for residents in several subdivisions in the village, including Gleneagle Farms, Silverstone Lakes and Kimball Farms. Representatives from Arc told the village audit and finance commission this week that it would cost the village about $100,000 over five years to swap out about 800 95-gallon carts for smaller 65-gallon or 35-gallon carts. Residents can also swap out 65-gallon recycling tubs for a 35-gallon size The village would pay for the swap out. Residents in the subdivisions have argued there is not enough space in their garages to accommodate the larger bin and storing a cart in front of the garage is an ordinance violation. The contract now awaits village board approval.

Dundee eyes smoking ban

The East Dundee village board on Monday is expected to adopt a local law regarding the statewide smoking ban. Though the state has outlawed smoking indoors in public places, the village wants to adopt an ordinance that it can enforce on a local level. Village Manager Frank Koehler said the local ordinance would allow the village, rather than the state court system, to police the smoking policy.
