Time to register new students for school in District 26

For kids who go to River Trails School District 26 kindergarten, or who will be new students next school year at Grove School or Euclid School, it is time to register.

It's from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Indian Grove School, 1340 Burning Bush, or Euclid School, 1211 N. Wheeling Road. You should go to the school your kids will attend.

You must bring your child's county birth certificate, two pieces of identification as proof of residency, telephone numbers of your doctor and emergency contacts.

Current students will receive registration packets through their schools in May.

Chat with the chief: If you want to talk to Mount Prospect Police Chief John Dahlberg, here's your best chance.

The village is offering a number of informal events called Chat with the Chief for residents at the library, 10 S. Emerson St., Room B.

The meetings will be conducted from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 21, March 6 and March 20, and 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. March 22.

Long term care for elderly: How does one make informed decisions about long-term care for elderly family members?

The Mount Prospect Library will focus on financial strategies to effectively plan for long-term care from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Led by independent insurance agent Al Kushner, this program will discuss tools such as insurance, long-term care riders on annuities and home equity conversion mortgages that may aid in covering the costs of long-term care. Topics also include Medicare and Medicaid.

Book club: Members of the Mount Prospect Library's Readers Advisory Group will lead an informal book discussion about "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen from 7 to 8 p.m. Feb. 25 at Caribou Coffee, 90 E. Northwest Hwy., Mount Prospect.

A limited number of copies of the book are available at the fiction/audio and visual/teen desk.
