Lenten organ recital set for Friday
On Friday, organist Charlie Sega will present the second recital in the 2008 Jane Hampton Chipman Lenten series.
The 30-minute organ recital begins at noon in the sanctuary of the First Congregational Church, 256 E. Chicago St. in Elgin.
Sega holds a bachelor of music degree from Wheaton College and a master of music degree from the University of Minnesota. He was an organ scholar at Southwell, England. While in England, he also had the post of organist for the Crammer Company. They sang services at Ely, Winchester, Wells and Chester Cathedrals. He is currently director of music and organist at St. David's Episcopal Church in Glenview.
The organ series started Feb. 8 and runs through Good Friday.
This year, the church will have one concert in the evening. Many Elginites have requested an evening performance because they are unable to attend the concerts held at noon. In order to give these people a chance to enjoy this special series, one concert will be held at 8 p.m. March 14. This recital will be performed by The Gargoyle Brass with Michael Surratt. The organ music is from Rachmaninoff Vespers.
Jon Warfel, FCC's current music director, plans and directs the Lenten programs. Talent from the Fox Valley and neighboring suburbs are featured each Friday during Lent.
