Briefs: Enjoy fish fry during Lent

Ss. Peter and Paul Church is hosting all-you-can-eat fish frys from 5 to 8 p.m. Fridays during Lent. The church is at 5N939 Meredith Road (at Route 64) in Virgil. The menu includes fried perch, baked cod, french fries, baked potato, vegetable, coleslaw, applesauce, dinner rolls and dessert. Shrimp and chicken nuggets as well as beer and soft drinks are available at an extra charge. Carryout is also available. Teen job fair returns

The St. Charles Park District's annual teen job fair is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave. There is no charge for businesses or college and high school students interested in participating. Call (630) 513-4331.

Cats up for adoption

At least 20 cats and kittens will be up for adoption from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 23 during an adoption drive at National City Bank, 2600 E. Main St., St. Charles. The drive is a project of St. Charles-based Homes for Endangered and Lost Pets. All animals have had vaccinations, parasite control treatment, spaying or neutering, viral testing and microchips implanted. Adoption fees vary. Be a weather watcher:

Weather watchers can get training to become a volunteer weather observer Feb. 25 at the Kane County Extension Office of the University of Illinois, 535 S. Randall Road, St. Charles. The weather-tracking program is being coordinated by the Illinois State Water Survey and the National Weather Service. The training session, set for 7 p.m., is free to attend, but participants should register in advance. Those who go on to become volunteers will need approximately $25 in supplies. Call (815) 397-7714.
