Man accused of salt theft

A Fox Lake man was arrested Saturday after he stole 100 pounds of salt stored behind a shopping plaza at 100 N. Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove police said. Steven James Wieder, 50, of 1176 Deerpath Court, Fox Lake, was arrested around 2:10 p.m. Saturday and charged with theft, police said. A witness saw someone in a pickup truck take the salt from the stockpile at the shopping mall. Wieder was stopped by officers in Wheeling and has a March 28 court date in Mundelein. Police also reported another similar incident around 7:35 a.m. Friday at a shopping center at 770 Buffalo Grove Road. Someone from a snow removal company reported that a driver in a red pickup truck took a load of salt from that location, according to police reports.
