Abe sightings abound throughout Illinois
You can catch a glimpse of Honest Abe in rather unlikely places these days -- even at the mall or off a stretch of Illinois highway.
A replica of the Lincoln Memorial was created by Arlington Heights ice sculptor Fran Volz from a styrofoam-like material called Polyfoam. It's now on display at Randhurst Shopping Center in Mount Prospect.
Volz explained why he chose Lincoln as a subject: "It's a recognizable figure that people have a reverence for," he said. "It's got its own status and quality in the fine arts world."
A more colorful statue of the beloved president towers over a stretch of road near Kankakee. The giant folk-art statue sits off Highway 57 in Bourbonnais, where it often holds signs like "Support our troops." It's on the property of Alexander Equipment Rental, surrounded by giant cherry pickers and fork lifts for rent.
