Briefs: lgonquin raises water rate
Algonquin trustees this week approved a 7 percent annual increase on water and sewer fees. The increases begin next year and will run through 2013. Right now, the rate $5.57 per 1,000 gallons of water used.
Dist. 158 OKs new classes
The Huntley Unit District 158 school board has approved new high school classes for the 2008-09 school year. The classes are a continuation of courses Huntley High School already offers. The high school will off Advanced Placement Psychology, AP English and Composition, Advanced Computer Assisted Drawing and Chinese II. The district introduced Chinese I this year. Huntley High School will also add a third AP Calculus AB class. The new classes will be in the 2008-09 course catalog. The high school is considering additional courses that would be reflected in an addendum to the catalog.

Elgin and Fox River Water Reclamation District officials are looking for public input on pollution prevention and operational plans for their combined sewer systems at a meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at city hall, 150 Dexter Court. Residents will receive information about combined sewer overflow and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permits. Copies of the city's plans are available for viewing between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily at the public works department, 1900 Holmes Road. Copies of the district's plans are available for viewing at www.frwrd.com. Call city engineer Joe Evers at (847) 931-5955.
Mr. CHS contest on tap
The Central High School post prom committee will sponsor the fifth annual Mr. CHS contest at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Central High School auditorium. Doors open at 12:15 p.m. Fourteen of Central's most outgoing male students will strut their stuff in hopes of winning the title of Mr. CHS. In addition to the crowning of Mr. CHS, there will be an award given for "Mr. Heart Throb." Tickets are $8.
Ski by candlelight
McHenry County Conservation District will host a Candlelight Cross County Ski Program at 5 p.m. today at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road in Crystal Lake.
