Ranch living appeals to downsizing buyers

A small, intimate community of 60 ranch villa townhouses, Remington Ridge is surrounded on three sides by tall oaks and other trees that are part of the forest preserve, never to be disturbed by future development.

Remington Homes offers three end units and two interior floor plans with two bedrooms or two bedrooms with den, and three baths. All models feature a finished lower level, which includes a large family room plus bedroom or den and bath that can be used as a bedroom suite for a family member or guests.

Just minutes from I-90 on Route 59 in Streamwood, these maintenance-free townhouses are built in clusters of two to three homes in each building, many on premium lots that back up to the woods.

"Many people downsizing from larger homes are drawn to these single-level floor plans," said Sharon Kochlefl, sales manager at Remington Ridge. "They're amazed that the interior space is so seamless and, in many cases, even more spacious than their two-story homes.

Most people seem to gravitate to the kitchen and dining area that stretch across the rear of the villas. And they like the openness with no walls separating the two spaces, Kochlefl said.

One of the models is the Franklin, priced from $369,900 with 2,276 square feet. This design is decorated in a gold, brick red and pumpkin color scheme and has hardwood floors throughout.

Lots of plants adorn the living room while a sofa and two chairs offer seating. An area rug adds interest. An art niche with wall painting highlights the dining room, where a glass-topped table for four is topped with a candle centerpiece. Both rooms have vaulted ceilings.

The centerpiece of the gourmet kitchen is the center island that serves as a buffet, breakfast bar and food prep area. The room also features a vaulted ceiling and a pantry.

Topped with a cathedral ceiling, the master suite features a soft green bed cover, matching end tables and freestanding mirror. A chair sits in the corner for nighttime reading. The bath features dual sinks, soaking tub and walk-in shower with clear glass door. A walk-in closet sits off the bath.

A second bedroom features white furnishings and hand painting on the headboard and walls. Green sheers decorate the windows.

An open staircase leads to the finished lower level, where movie-themed wallpaper wraps around the spacious entertaining space. A table with benches, a foosball game and a home theater with four chairs furnish the room. There is also a bedroom outfitted as a hobby room for scrapbooking and a full bath.

The Columbia, priced from $384,900, has 2,298 square feet. The interior of this design features an eggplant, sage and cream palette, dark woods and tile floor throughout.

Eggplant walls are the focal point in the extended living room furnished with two love seats and plasma TV set against a decorative screen. In the dining room, a dark wood table with glass inlay and green and white place settings sits ready to serve guests. Both rooms have a vaulted ceiling.

The gourmet kitchen features granite countertops, black appliances, center island and a pantry. Off the dining room, a three-season room with lots of windows and four wicker chairs provides extra living space, except in the coldest winter months.

A carpeted second bedroom is furnished with a day bed with green and red plaid cover, chair and candle display.

The finished lower level with bath has a wine theme and features a gold textured sofa, love seat, plasma TV and table for a wine and cheese tasting. The car-themed den is furnished with a dark wood desk, two leather chairs and photographs of old-fashioned cars.

Also modeled is the Highland, from $399,900 with 2,611 square feet. Other available floor plans are the Wright, from $371,900 with 2,338 square feet, and the Eagle, from $389,900 with 2,321 square feet.

Some townhouses are available for immediate delivery.
