$750,000 damage caused by pre-dawn Elburn fire
An early morning fire Wednesday caused an estimated $750,000 damage to a business in an Elburn industrial park.
Elburn firefighters responded about 5:45 a.m. to a call at Valley West Sandblasting and Painting Inc., 16 Dempsey Drive. The fire was brought under control in about 2½ hours, according to the Elburn Fire Department.
Fire officials said there were no injuries.
The cause has not been determined.
The fire was discovered after a resident reported smelling smoke.
The fire was in the paint booth in the southeast corner of the one-story, 10,000-square-foot building, Elburn Fire Chief Kelly Callaghan said.
Callaghan said he could not estimate how long the business would be closed.
The building is on a cul-de-sac just south of North Street and north of the Union Pacific railroad tracks.
