Itasca library gets money for work
Voters on Tuesday agreed to spend tax money to clean up water leaks and mold damage at the Itasca Community Library.
With all 9 precincts reporting, unofficial totals showed just more than 58 percent of voters supported the district's $1.75 million bond issue to remediate water leaks and eliminate mold growth attributed to faulty construction of the 1995 addition.
"These vote totals show our residents realize the importance of the library and are committed to keeping the library up and running," district President Maxine Swanson said. "We thank everyone who came out to vote."
With voter approval in hand, work is expected to begin in early March and take six to nine months to complete. Swanson said the district will hire a construction company as soon as possible and work should begin as soon as weather allows.
The owners of a $300,000 home in Itasca will pay an extra $21.85 to the library district beginning with their next tax bill.
Voters last approved a tax increase for the library in 1993 to allow it to expand at its current location, 500 W. Irving Park Road, to more than 27,000 square feet. The renovated facility was dedicated in September 1995.
