Funds for Winfield Twp. roads rejected

Voters again rejected a tax-hike request by Winfield Township to pay for roadwork in unincorporated area.

With all 35 precincts reporting, unofficial totals showed 7,506 voters opposed to the proposal and 3,647 voters in favor of it.

In order to raise another $200,000 for the Winfield Township Road District, officials asked voters to approve a property tax-rate increase of 2 cents per $100 of equalized assessed valuation. The additional money would have paid for paving and maintenance projects for 48 miles of roads.

More than 64 percent of township voters rejected the same request in April.
