Honest debate of issues is important
I want to extend my deepest appreciation to Jeffrey Bard, a member of the District 73 school board.
He has been doing an outstanding job representing parents in our district. I realize at times this has meant speaking up against the majority and taking unpopular, yet necessary positions on a variety of issues. His courage and determination to make sure our administration is held accountable and responsible to the needs and wants of both our children and their taxpaying parents provides an excellent lesson in civics we should all be learning.
It was sadly apparent at a school board meeting on Jan. 28th that not everyone in the administration appreciates the unpaid volunteer effort being put forth by every board member. Open and honest debate of all issues, financial and otherwise, are critical in order to preserve and improve upon an excellent education for every child in District 73.
It is the simple truth that parents, as the taxpayers, are the employers of the administration; the board members are the officials elected to represent the taxpayers. I have great respect for all the professionals employed in our district. I would hope the respect and consideration being given to them will be reciprocated to the rest of our community.
