Downstate senator to fill in at GOP dinner
A broken jaw has forced a change in the program for tonight's Grant Township Lincoln Day Dinner.
State Sen. Bill Brady, who represents the 44th District in central Illinois, is the new guest speaker for the 57th annual dinner.
The original speaker, state Sen. Dan Rutherford, broke his jaw while vacationing in Colorado, said dinner director Nancy Kubalanza.
Rutherford's jaw was wired shut, Kubalanza added.
"We are honored to have Bill Brady as our guest speaker, though," she said. "He came out to Lake County in 2006 when running for governor, and we were very impressed with his record."
Kubalanza said Brady, who is from Bloomington, is a mainstream conservative who believes state government should be accountable for educating our children and maintaining such essential services as transportation and law enforcement.
The event starts at 6 p.m. at Maravela's Banquet Hall at Route 59 and Washington in Fox Lake.
Kubalanza said about 300 people attend the dinner annually.
She added the dinner is one of the main stops for most politicians campaigning in the election season.
"It's always one of the highlights of the political season," she said.
Tickets are $40 per person. For more information or to purchase tickets, call Kubalanza at (847) 587-5954.
