Officer breaks finger during man's arrest
A Schaumburg police officer remains on medical leave after he was injured in a struggle with a suspect who officials said resisted arrest.
The officer broke a finger on one hand and tore ligaments in the other during the Sunday arrest, police said. Two other officers injured in the struggle were treated and returned to duty.
Israel Marcos Arroyo, 22, of 163404 Heron in Crest Hill, was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, unlawful use of a weapon, defacing the serial number of a firearm and resisting arrest. His bond was set at $45,000.
Schaumburg police had been alerted to man sitting in a car holding a handgun in a shopping center parking lot on the 100 block of North Barrington Road.
When police arrived and ordered Arroyo and two other men out of the car, he pushed one of the officers, dropped a .40-caliber handgun and then tried to run away, police said.
He had to be tackled by pursuing officers and kicked and struggled as they tried to subdue him, Nebl added.
One of the men with Arroyo -- 24-year-old Courtnei Glenn Travis of 225 E. 132nd in Riverdale -- was arrested on an outstanding Cook County warrant, Nebl said.
