Fire damages Glendale Heights home a second time
Strike two.
For the second time in as many months, an accidental fire damaged the same house in Glendale Heights.
In fact, workers were in the middle of repairing the house at 57 Lincoln Ave. when Thursday morning's blaze occurred.
"Accidents happen," Glenside Fire Protection District Chief Don Markowski said. "This is an unfortunate situation for the owner who'll probably be delayed even longer from getting back into the house."
No one has been able to live in the house since the earlier fire two months ago, officials said.
On Thursday morning, restoration crews were at the house painting walls and trying to eliminate smoke odor when a lamp was knocked over in an upstairs bedroom.
Heat from the lamp caused a tarpaulin to catch fire. The flames spread throughout the second floor.
Fire departments responded about 11 a.m., and had the fire contained within 15 minutes, Markowski said.
No injuries were reported.
It will cost an estimated $25,000 to repair the damage caused by the most recent fire, Markowski said.
The structure remains uninhabitable. The owner of the house has been living elsewhere since the first blaze, officials said.
Bloomingdale, Carol Stream and Glen Ellyn fire departments assisted in battling the fire.
The houses in the neighborhood are about 40 years old.
