SE/Bartlett co-op 2nd at Lake Park

The Lake Park Lancers will move their team on to sectionals for the third year in a row after taking the top spot in all four events for a total score of 135.275 at Thursday night's Lake Park regional.

Despite a 31.425 on the beam, the Lancers finished strong with a 35.25 on the floor to cap the night.

"With the exception of the beam, we hit very solid on our routines," said Lancers' coach Keith Matune. "You have to give all the credit to the girls."

Taking second with a 9.1 on the floor was Samantha Millikan, a freshman, who did her routine to the theme of "Bewitched", rounding off her night with third in the all-around (33.975).

"I kind of got my name from the show because it was my dad's favorite show," Millikan said. "Our team as a whole really brought it together."

Ashley Nelson took fifth all-around with a 33.375 with a third place finish on the vault (9.05) and fifth on the bars (8.25).

The South Elgin/Bartlett co-op finished second overall with a score of 128.925, but the team was missing two of its top performers, Christine Bailye and Caitlin Grega, who were missing due to disciplinary action of which first-year coach Kathy Blaheta said, "Sometimes good girls make bad decisions."

Despite the setback, the team did move three girls to sectionals all-around: Emily Potts with second (34.225), Jennifer McGinnis with seventh (32.425) and Kristell Westbrook with ninth (31.925).

Potts took first on the beam (8.525) and vault (9.225) while adding a fourth place finish on the bars (8.5).

"I was pretty happy with my night," Potts said. "I definitely think we improved tonight and I was a lot cleaner on the beam."

McGinnis took seventh in two events: bars (8.05) and floor (8.65).

"It was a big challenge but we really came through as a team," McGinnis said. "Our team really stepped up."

Maine West took third overall with a 127.5 while moving two girls on to sectional with Lindsay Jozefat taking the gold all-around with a 34.4 while Stacey Delgado took eighth all-around with 32.075.

"That was our second highest score of the season," said Warriors coach Peter Botthof. "It's the first time in decades Maine West has moved two girls on to sectionals."

Rolling Meadows took fourth with a 123.175 while moving on sisters Jen and Emily Andersen with fourth all-around (33.85) and sixth (32.625) respectively.

"I'm pretty pleased, especially on floor (9.325 for first)," Andersen said. "I was a little nervous, but I was happy with my night."

At Stevenson: Prairie Ridge freshman Jennifer Covers qualified for sectionals in three events and the all-around at the Stevenson regional. She finished second on vault (9.40, fifth on the beam (8.55) and fourth on the floor (9.425) as well as fourth in the all-around competition with a score of 36.050.
