Keep saying no to Big Hollow taxes

I would like to reply to your own editorial board as well as to Jennifer Zitkus's letter of Jan. 23.

Not everyone wants a yes vote for the Big Hollow school referendum. Many of us in the district are senior citizens, empty nesters, or young child free. We can't afford any more taxes.

But we might consider a possible change of heart if it weren't for the following important and relevant facts:

Why does this issue get to be on every single ballot no matter how many times a year? We have already turned this down three or four times.

Does it go on forever?

We are not convinced the school board has done its homework. The old school site is now under contract. Use that money. You will get that sooner than new taxes.

Why was that property not put up for sale while the new school was being built?

Most of us hate being blackmailed. This "we won't have music, art, etc." is nothing short of a attempted guilt trip. Nonsense. They have this big new building and can't afford some classes. Maybe the school should have been scaled down in anticipation of that!

We need to vote no again. Everyone be sure and vote no Feb. 5th. And let's keep saying no until they stop playing tricks on us with a "referendum a week 'til it passes" ploy. Or they accept our decision and find new ways to carry on.
