Compromise, and build new Hubble
When you leave your home to go vote on Feb. 5, think of three C's -- compromise, concern and commitment. Striking a compromise starts incredible progress in most situations. It's time to compromise and build a school in the southwest area of District 200 to allow children to attend in the area where they live.
Currently, there are four middle schools in close proximity in Wheaton. Concern -- let's be concerned about children attending Hubble Middle School right now. A building on traffic-dense Roosevelt Road that is old, designed and built for a high school curriculum and too large for efficiency in use and maintenance is no longer feasible. Those students deserve a new school where the land is available.
Lastly, think about commitment. The District 200 board is committed, as elected officials, to do the best they can for students within the district boundaries. They have searched for appropriate areas, they have accomplished due diligence and more in assuring the selected site is safe, they have kept the public aware of all the information about costs, timeline, the taxing effects on citizens, and listened with an open mind to everyone who attended countless school board meetings. They are committed to responsibly fulfilling the task of helping students.
Thinking about the future is always a daunting task because it's fear of the unknown. In this case, every aspect has been written, discussed at length and re-visited making sure the future looks bright. Think of our District 200 children and vote them the chance to attend a school in an area that will work for every rationale.
