Quick coffee to go will be an option on Randall Road
The quest to get a quick coffee in the morning when heading toward the tollway along Randall Road is about to get a little easier.
By March, the new Dunkin' Donuts, complete with hot coffee, frosted doughnuts and drive-through, is expected to open along the west side of Randall in the old Famous Firehouse Coffee location. Yes, that location right across the road from Starbucks.
The spot didn't prove to be too successful for the independent Famous Firehouse Coffee, but locals are confident a bigger name might fare a little better.
And that's good news for those of you heading south on Randall toward the tollway, especially from the northern end of the retail corridor. Presently, it can be hard to whip in and out quickly in the morning for coffee without exiting your car -- unless of course you can wait all the way until you get to the Dunkin' Donuts in Carpentersville or the Starbucks in Elgin for your coffee.
Crews are busy right now turning the old fire-engine red retail front into a typical Dunkin' Donuts.
Right now, the closest Dunkin' Donuts is just a short drive past Algonquin Road and to the west. However, you need to exit your car there.
Employees say that location still will remain open. The new one will just provide an easier opportunity for those traveling along Randall.
Something's missing: And that something, according to Marcia Mikesell of South Elgin, is a nearby bookstore. She said she sees everything else opening along Randall Road in South Elgin, but her community still doesn't have a bookstore.
"If we want to visit a bookstore we have to go down to Geneva or up to Spring Hill Mall. I was wondering if we'll ever have one in our area? I would certainly think there would be a huge interest for our area, especially since we have the Del Webb off of Bowes Road and many older folks enjoy reading.
"We have 3-4 pet stores all within a mile of one another, several office supply businesses, and several stores like Menards, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Please let me know if there's anyone I could suggest this to."
Well here you go, Marcia. Your suggestion is now out there.
What's in your future? If you can envision yourself being a barista at Starbucks, now is your chance.
The Lake in the Hills Startbucks, on the east side of Randall Road just north Algonquin Road, is holding a job fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.
Anyone is welcome to stop by the fair. No appointments are necessary. However, it is advised that you bring your resume along.
