Self-monitoring only safe I-Pass approach

The first article about problems of I-PASS users was an eye-opener. It seems the tollway system works (or rather, doesn't work) much like government.

The end result is that we pay regardless of its ability to carry out its responsibilities. The more self-serving and irresponsible it is, the more we pay. The users always lose in a system that has no incentive to be competent or efficient because shortcomings are always corrected at the expense of the user.

The only way for users of the I-PASS to stay out of trouble is to be vigilant. Your first article spurred me to check my account. I checked my recent tollway trips and updated my credit card information which had recently expired.

Fortunately, I rarely use the system so my risk is minimal. Unfortunately, people are either too busy or too lazy to be proactive. Many problems can be quickly corrected or prevented by simply monitoring on a regular basis.

The I-PASS Web site is easy to navigate and should be checked on a regular basis, especially by those who regularly use the tollways. Nobody should take for granted that the system will look out for them, especially when there is a profit to be made by not doing so.
